All the steps involved in sponsoring your spouse, common-law partner or dependent child to come to Canada.

Are you interested in sponsoring a spouse, common-law partner, or dependent child to come to Canada? Keep reading for steps on how to apply.

To sponsor a family member, you must complete two separate applications. Firstly, you need to fill out your application to become a sponsor. Secondly, your spouse, partner or child make an application for permanent residence. However, you should send both applications for sponsorship and permanent residence together.

What is the first step of the spouse sponsorship application process?

Firstly, request an application package. This package will include a document checklist, some forms to fill out, as well as instructions to guide you and your family members.

Remember, the application is non-refundable. Make sure you read the guide carefully. Moreover, you should ensure that:

  • You are eligible to sponsor
  • You list all of your family members
  • All of the information you provide is true
  • The application is complete

Finally, it is important to know that you can request permission to complete your family’s application if they are having difficulty doing it by themselves.
